The Oyster Roast is as Eastern Shore as it gets. If you’re looking for a way to truly taste the Shore, this is it!
There are several Oyster Roasts happening on the Shore this fall. Check out these events and make sure to add them to your trip itinerary this fall! The events are listed in order from soonest to furthest out.
Annual Chincoteague Island Oyster Festival

This event is held to promote the seafood industry and mark the arrival of the oyster season. Come and enjoy oysters— raw, steamed, fritters, and single fried; clam fritters, clam chowder, shrimp cocktail, salad bar, hot dogs, hush puppies, Boardwalk fries, and non-alcoholic beverages. Beer is available for purchase. Live entertainment, Extravaganza Raffle, and “Best Space” contest for everyone’s enjoyment. There will also be a variety of souvenirs available for purchase. Gates open at 10 am for admission and set-up. Appetizers are served at 11 am and a full menu is available at 12:00 noon. The Festival ends at 4:00 pm. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
8th Annual Saxis Island Oyster Roast

The 8th annual Saxis Island Oyster Roast is happening on October 16th from 3 to 6 pm. It features a raffle and delicious all-you-can-eat menu!
All proceeds from the Oyster Roast will benefit community beautification and improvement projects on Saxis Island. The raffle will feature a framed and matted print by Don Sparrow called Cedar Creek Mallards and a Shore Bird Carving by Larry Linton. You can buy tickets at the Saxis Island Museum, online, or onsite at the Oyster Roast.
The all-you-can-eat menu features two options, one with oysters and one without. Non-alcoholic beverages are included and alcoholic drinks will be available for purchase. No BYOB or coolers. Please bring your own oyster knife or purchase one from the museum. There will also be music for your entertainment!
Tickets for the oyster roast are $55 per person for the menu with oysters and $30 per person for the menu without oysters. They may be purchased by calling the Mayor of Saxis, Denise Drewer, at 757-710-4747 or online.
The Oyster Roast will be held at the Saxis Marina on 9151 Starling Creek Road.

Chatham Vineyards is a part of the ESVA Artisans Guild Holiday Tour on the Friday & Saturday after Thanksgiving.
They will be offering 1/2 half dozen oysters and a glass of wine during the tour.
