Family Activities for Father’s Day Fishing Trips

Fishing trips are the perfect, unique Father’s Day gift for dad. Out here on the Shore, there is a huge variety of fish and plenty of fishing charters to take you where you want to go. But what does the family do while dad is out catching his dream fish?
You can fish in the surf on Chincoteague, off the free fishing dock in Cape Charles, or book a fishing charter out of Onancock or Wachapreague. When the fishing is done, or if the family isn’t into fishing, there is no end to things to do in each town.

If you fish off the dock at Kiptopeke, your family can enjoy their time on the beach or walking the trails or taking a short drive to shop in Cape Charles. Kiptopeke is a beautiful campground and a great place to stay if you want to be able to walk from your campsite to the fishing dock or the beach!

If you are on the fishing dock in Cape Charles, you have the beautiful Cape Charles beach, the shops, spas and salons, and fantastic, award-winning restaurants just a short walk (or golf cart ride) away!

In Wachapreague, the family can take a bike ride along the water’s edge and enjoy meals at the Island House or the Wachapreague General store, then peruse the gift shop in the Wachapreague Inn. Make sure to stop in the gazebo for your family picture!
Continuing the adventure north, the Wharf at Onancock offers so many opportunities. Take a fishing charter while the family goes on a guided ecotour or enjoys a meal made fresh in one of the many fabulous Onancock restaurants. There are art galleries, local craftsman, a historic blacksmith’s shop, antique stores, and more to enjoy. Be sure to save the Corner Bakery donuts for when dad gets back though!

On Chincoteague, there are endless opportunities for guided ecotours, pony tours, sweet treats, Island-themed shops, and even a theater to explore. Fishing charters leave out of the marinas and many hotels allow fishing right off of their private docks. Combine fishing and a beach day on the Chincoteague National Wildlife refuge, because while dad fishes the surf, the family can play in the waves or build sandcastles and get some sun. While you’re on the refuge, be sure to explore the trails and the lighthouse!
