About

The Chincoteague Island Library is a small independent library open to the public year-round 42 hours per week. In addition to an extensive selection of books, audio books, and dvd's, we offer reasonable used books for sale as well as free books. Children's programs, book clubs and adult programs are free and open to all. The Library is affiliated with the Eastern Shore Public Library and is staffed mostly by volunteers and part-time assistance from ESPL.

New in 2025, the library has launched NextWave, a new initiative designed to engage the “next wave” of thinkers, leaders, and makers, tweens and teens who are ready to explore, create, and connect.

NextWave will offer a series of free, age-appropriate programs that spark curiosity, encourage creativity, and inspire innovation. This program is for residents and guests; all are welcome to take part in this new chapter of youth programming at the library.

To learn more about the library's special events and programming, please visit the Chincoteague Island Library Facebook page.
