Lecture - 'The Eyes of All...Are Turned Upon Us!'

Steve Bilicki is back this year with another fascinating lecture that informs us about Virginia Maritime archaeology and history during the revolutionary period. We thought this topic would dovetail with the 250th celebrations.

We hope you will join us on Friday September 11th at 6:00 pm at Ker Place.

The Chesapeake region may have seemed to be a backwater of the total revolution, however Virginias and Marylanders efforts during the conflict struck on local and global stages. Virginia and Maryland began clashing with the British and Tories for six years before both combatants’ armies met in Virginia. With the siege at Yorktown and defeat of the British army signaling the end of the war for most. The war raged on in the Chesapeake region for two more years. This presentation will examine the history of Chesapeake Bay conflict and a few archaeological discoveries.

Steve is a Marine Archaeologist and has studied our mid Atlantic waters for maritime history. Locally, Stephen has taught and lectured on various topics of Anthropology and Archaeology, additionally providing insights to survey techniques as an adjunct professor and high school mentor. His avid interest in Maritime and Naval History started early. Steve is an engaging speaker and you will not want to miss this presentation.
