About

This lecture will cover the men, ships, politics, and logistics of the Virginia Navy and the battles fought in the Chesapeake Bay and on the Atlantic Ocean to protect the Old Dominion’s maritime frontier.

Matthew Krogh grew up in Onancock, Virginia, and graduated from Nandua High School in 2000. He has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in history from Virginia Tech. Matthew has studied maritime history and collected artifacts from the Chesapeake Bay region for the past 25 years. In his spare time, he portrays a sailor in the Virginia Navy during the Revolutionary War and the U.S. Navy during the War of 1812 with his reenacting unit based in Hampton Roads. He is a Churchland Lodge #276, A.F. & A.M. member and serves as a Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist at Ware Insurance. He lives in Portsmouth, Virginia, with his family, including two children, Stirling and Georgiana.
